Could you help colleagues have a stronger voice at work? NEU reps bring members together, listen to their concerns and work with them to improve working conditions.

You do not need to know all the answers to get started. NEU Southampton and the wider union provide training, advice and support.

What workplace reps do

  • Keep members informed and welcome new colleagues into the union.
  • Bring members together to discuss concerns and agree priorities.
  • Raise shared issues with management.
  • Help members access the advice and support they need.

Training and support

The NEU offers training for new and experienced reps. Local officers can help you work out how to approach an issue and when to seek further advice.

The role can be shared with colleagues. We can discuss what that could look like in your workplace, alongside the time and support available to you.

Where the NEU is recognised by your employer, reps have rights to reasonable paid time off for relevant union duties and training. Speak to us about the arrangements in your workplace.

Other ways to be a rep

Health and safety reps help members raise concerns about health, safety and welfare at work. Learning reps support members with learning and professional development. These roles can sit alongside the workplace rep as part of a local union team.
